Fatigue

Fatigue is one of the most common complaints that patients present to their practitioners. There are many causes and in order to help the patient, the cause must be determined. From mild to severe, the causes can be varied and overlap.

The adrenal glands produce hormones that not only regulate our immune system and response to stress, but also partner in maintaining bone and muscle mass, as well as libido and energy levels.

The most common causes include:

Hidden allergies both environmental and food related. Nasal congestion related to allergies can cause sleep problems and sleep deprivation and drain daytime energy.

Insomnia is also a culprit…with busy lives and burning the candle at both ends…sleep quality and quantity are affected.

Dietary factors can manifest as fatigue as caffeine and alcohol may have side effects long after ingestion and disturb sleep quality and blood sugar.

Hormone imbalances affect sleep whether it is estrogen, progesterone or thyroid imbalances.

Iodine deficiency impacts thyroid function and energy. Many types of thyroid problems exist and it is essential to test and treat appropriately.

Hidden infections such as Lyme disease, dental infections and chronic sinus or tonsil/adenoid tissues can wear down the immune system and adrenal glands.

Adrenal problems contribute immensely to the complaint of fatigue. Measurement of Salivary Cortisol levels helps to pinpoint the intensity and area where support is needed. Often many lifestyle factors can be recommended to enhance adrenal health. Protocols are developed to meet specific needs of patients. To remedy fatigue…the cause must be determined.
