Food Allergies... Nothing to Sneeze At

It is essential to understand that there are different types of food Allergies…IGE (Immediate Response) and IGG (Delayed Response). Usually with immediate reactions ( IGE), the reaction is sudden and the relationship between the food and symptoms is self-evident. Delayed IGG reactions, on the other hand are not. Symptoms may take 4-72 hours to develop and you may not even relate the symptoms to the food ingestion, nor the toll it is taking on your health.

Symptoms are often low grade and chronic and include but are not limited to: general fatigue, malaise, headaches, difficulty losing weight, insatiable food cravings, food addictions, trouble concentrating or simply that run-over-by -a- truck-feeling that you cannot shake.

Possible Disorders related to food allergies:

  • Skin problems such as dermatitis, hives, eczema

  • Digestive issues such as Celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, food sensitivity and constipation

  • Respiratory issues such as sinusitis and rhinitis, asthma

  • Urinary issues to include urinary frequency

  • Cognitive issues to include ADD, ADHD, hyperactivity, migraines, autism, chronic fatigue and epilepsy

  • Head and Neck issues to include Meniere’s disease, chronic ear infections and recurrent oral ulcers

  • Muscle and Joint issue to include Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis

The first step is to identify the allergens with a simple blood test. Avoidance of the allergic foods and lifestyle changes frequently has dramatic improvement.
